Montgomery chaplain returns from Sochi Olympics

MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA) -

A Montgomery man is back from the Olympics, but he didn't go as an athlete and didn't come home with any medals.

Mitch Hamilton says his accomplishments in Sochi were even bigger than that. This trip in Sochi was about prayer and sharing the gospel.

Mitch Hamilton is part of an organization called International Sports Chaplains. Dozens of members of the organizations fanned out around Olympics Village and the surrounding areas wearing black cowboy hats to set them apart and trading pins to get the conversation started.

Hamilton says his group did run into a language barriers but was blown away by the generous spirit they found, especially from the Russians.

"Even though we didn't get to speak one on one very much, we shared, and a lot of them I just told 'Jesus loves you,' and I would give them the pin, and they would want to return by giving me something," Hamilton said.
