Fire that destroyed Wilson Co. family's home rekindles

Flames ripped through a family's home on Henderson Road in Lebanon early Wednesday morning, and a cough may have saved their lives.

Jennifer Runyon says her husband woke up coughing Wednesday morning, which is when she saw a sight she'll likely never forget.

"He just looked up, he said, 'There's something wrong, get up.' I just looked and seen one wall already up in flames, so we just put clothes on and run out the door," Runyon said.

Her husband, Charles Goolsby, and her brother, who lives with them, watched their home burn.

"By the time the fire department got here, there wasn't much you could do," Goolsby said.

On Wednesday night, the flames rekindled.

Goolsby says they lit the fireplace Tuesday night, but it's not clear what started the fire.

Seeing his home like this is a heartbreaking sight, one that Goolsby hopes others never have to face.

"Make sure you got smoke alarms. That's the main thing, and if you rent a house and you don't think you need renter's insurance, think twice," Goolsby said.

The landlord who owned the home is giving the family another place to stay in until they get back on their feet.

A disaster fund has been set up at Suntrust bank. Donations can be made in care of Jennifer Runyon at any Nashville-area branch.
