CHILTON COUNTY, AL (WBRC) -

A grand jury has indicted a former Thorsby teacher and cheerleading sponsor for the rape and sodomy of a minor.

Jennifer Collins McNeill, 39, was arrested in August 2013 and charged with six counts of rape and two counts of sodomy of a juvenile male. The indictment against her for the charges was filed Feb. 21.

McNeill is accused of having an inappropriate relationship with a teenage student under the age of 18. The Chilton County District Attorney says the accuser was not a student at Thorsby, which is a combine K-12th grade school.

McNeill was placed on administrative leave after her arrest. Chilton County Superintendent Dave Hayden says that McNeill has resigned from the school system.

"It's embarrassing for the schools system, and it's not fun for anybody involved, but it's something that we have to face now and, based on her choices, here we go," said Chief Deputy District Attorney C.J. Robinson.

McNeill's attorney says any comment about her client and the charges pending would be premature at this point.

McNeill is out on bond from her August arrest and is scheduled for an arraignment March 10.
