Region 8 teen helps cancer patients with 'Tied2Hope'

Posted: Updated:

JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) - Sixteen-year-old Mary Margaret Bryant is the daughter of an NEA Baptist gynecologic oncologist who wants to do her part in helping cancer patients get through difficult times.

Bryant started the non-profit organization "Tied2Hope", a charity that provides handmade blankets to cancer patients at no charge.

Sunday night she teamed with the AOII sorority at Arkansas State University to make 15 fleece blankets.

"This is a really tough time for them and I know if I had cancer I would want someone to help me and make my day," she said. "The look on the women's face when I give them the blanket is amazing. It makes up for everything. It makes me want to do this for a really long time."

Bryant began making the blankets and giving them away as Christmas presents when she was 12 years old.

The blankets will be donated to HopeCircle, a free program of NEA Baptist Charitable Foundation located at the Fowler Family Center for Cancer Care on the NEA Baptist medical campus.
