Emergency crews participate in Regional Disaster Drill Saturday

GREENE COUNTY, AR (KAIT) - Responding to emergencies better is a constant goal for officials, so the Greene County Emergency Crews participated in the Regional Disaster Drill Saturday morning.

This training helps local officials learn how to respond to disasters while also working with other emergency crews.

The Greene County Rescue Squad, Paragould Fire Department, Paragould Police, and AMMC ambulance service worked the scene of a simulated car accident which involved a meth lab and a church van with multiple passengers.

Chief Curtis Davenport with the Greene County Rescue Squad said this exercise helps them prepare for a disaster that may involve several victims at once.

"If each individual group takes care of their part of the thing, it makes the whole situation go a lot smoother," said Davenport. "In the past we've had school bus accidents, we've had earthquakes, years ago we had a simulated plane crash."

Davenport says they try to shift responsibilities from group to group each year, so each group gets the chance to practice and prepare.
