Festival of Spirituals set for Sunday

HUNTSVILLE, AL (WAFF) -

Oakwood University will host the Festival of Spirituals onSunday.

The event, which dates back to the 1970s, will start at 3p.m. in the Oakwood University Seventh-day Adventist Church. The festival willlast until 5 p.m.

This year, Mayor Tommy Battle and Representative Laura Hill will give remarks at the festival.

The event started while Dr. Richard Arrington served asthe Director of the Alabama Center for Higher Education.

Alabama HBCU Choirs assembled each year in Birmingham or at oneof the campuses to celebrate Black History Month. The event has been hosted atOakwood University biannually since 2002.
