Family and Friends lay Bullock Co. teen to rest

UNION SPRINGS, AL (WSFA) -

It was a somber day for family and friends as hundreds gathered in Bullock County High School Gymnasium to lay 13- year old Ka'Shaad Hurts to rest.

After investigating the case, Local and state investigators confirmed that Hurts committed suicide brought on by bullying.

WSFA Reporter Hannah Lane spoke with family members, who says that Ka'Shaad's death has been an emotional roller coaster for them.

"We are still trying to understand what exactly happened", said family members of Ka'Shaad.

Officials say there was never any report on file of Hurts being bullied, but they are addressing the issue, including forming a Georgia-based Anti-Bullying group to speak to all 1,500 Bullock County Public School Children.

Bullock County public schools superintendent Dr. Keith Stewart stated that bullying is on-going and the school system has to be prepared to teach faculty how to detect when situations, such as bullying happens.

Ka'Shaad died just a few weeks before his 14th birthday, which would have been on march 10th.
