ST. LOUIS (KDSK/CNN) – It may be hard to believe, considering the winter storms throughout the U.S., but January was the fourth warmest since 1880.

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, or NOAA, said the combined average temperature globally was 58.5 degrees Fahrenheit.

That's warmer than the average.

NOAA also says that while the eastern half of the U.S. fell below the average temperature, it was not a record cold.
