Grand jury to hear case against man killing volunteer coach

LAUDERDALE COUNTY, AL (WAFF) -

A Lauderdale County Grand Jury will hear the case againsta man accused of killing a volunteer coach.

Jeremy Williams was charged with capital murder for thedeath of Brioni Rutland.

Investigators said Williams stabbed and shot Rutlandbefore dumping him under the old bridge in Sheffield. Williams appeared in aLauderdale County courtroom Friday for his preliminary hearing. Investigatorssaid Williams killed Rutland during a confrontation over a gambling debt.

Rutland coached at Deshler High School in Tuscumbia. "Iwould like to say I'm sorry to the Rutland family for the unfortunate eventsthat occurred on that day," said Williams.

Prosecutors said they're waiting on forensics resultsbefore they present the case to a grand jury.
