First Alert Weather: severe threat over, drier weather ahead for tonight

Posted: Updated:

WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) - The cold front that brought gusty showers and thunderstorms to much of the area Friday will rapidly move away from the Carolinas Friday night. In its wake, a pleasant high pressure system will move in for the weekend.

FRIDAY: A shower or two could linger in the evening but most spots will dry out nicely! Expect partly cloudy skies, north or northwest winds near 10 or 15mph, evening temperatures in the 50s, and late-night lows mainly in the low and mid 40s.

WEEKEND: Expect partly cloudy skies and low precipitation chances. Saturday highs: mainly low and mid 60s. Saturday winds: north or northeast around 10mph. Sunday morning lows: mainly upper 30s and lower 40s. Sunday afternoon highs: mainly upper 60s and lower 70s. Enjoy!

A PEEK INTO NEXT WEEK: Seasonably cool and mostly dry weather is likely for Monday and much of Tuesday. For late Tuesday into Wednesday, a storm system will bring a round of higher rain chances. And late in the week: colder daily highs in the 40s will likely make a comeback!
