Still looking for hotel room during CIAA? You're out of luck

CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) -

If you're looking for a hotel room in uptown Charlotte for next week's CIAA tournament, good luck. Nearly every hotel in Center City are booked solid.

Matt Allen, director of sales at Hyatt House beside the Time Warner Cable Arena said they've been booked up for weeks.

"We probably got full about a month ago," he said. "It's spring break, it's Mardi Gras, it's St. Patrick's Day all rolled into one."

The frenzied atmosphere is powered by legions of loyal fans who make their reservations months in advance. Even the top dollar Ritz Carlton -- where rooms start at more than $700 a night -- is nearly sold out.

That's doesn't surprise Charlottean Douglas Lattimore.

"It's just awesome that CIAA comes in, brings a ton of business to the city and Charlotte gets to capitalize," he pointed out.

Allen says that capitalization goes beyond just a place to stay. They're also getting their piece of the pie when it comes to the tournament's legendary nightlife.

"We have some day parties on Friday and Saturday," he pointed out. "One of the school is doing a brunch with us."

Those parties come with serious star power. Celebs like Diddy, DJ Jazzy Jeff, Tamar Braxton, actress Meagan Good and Morris Chestnut -- just to name a few -- will all be in the Queen City this time next week.

"I just think that it is a testament of where Charlotte has come from," Lattimore said.

And where he also thinks the Queen City is headed.

"Now we're hosting major events and I just believe we're going to go up from here. It's going to be awesome," he said.

The CIAA tournament kicks off Monday, February 24. It ends Sunday, March 2.
