Area florist donates flowers not sold during winter storm

NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WECT) -  Those at Julia's Florist said they lost a lot of Valentine's Day business because of the recent winter storm.

Instead of throwing away the flowers that weren't sold, or just letting them die at the shop,     they decided to give bouquets to the more than 100 residents at the Silver Stream nursing home.

Administrators at the facility say the residents were excited to get the beautiful arrangements.

"They were excited, and they love to have pretty things in their rooms so each of them having a bouquet of flowers in their room is going to brighten their day, and it will be remembered. I can tell you," said Sue Rawls.

She said she was both surprised and overjoyed to get the phone call announcing the flowers would be donated.

A total of 108 bouquets were donated.
