Jackson Co. man charged with shooting to serve 15 years

SCOTTSBORO, AL (WAFF) -

A Jackson County man charged with the shooting death of hisex-girlfriend will spend 15 years behind bars, the majority of that time onunrelated charges.

Jonathan Nicholson received a one year prison sentence afterpleading guilty Wednesday to criminally negligent homicide.

Police said he was charged with the misdemeanor in the death ofTessa Groves because he was attempting to shoot himself when the bullet exitedhis mouth and struck Groves.

The sentence will run concurrent with an unrelated armed robberycharge.

    The Guntersville Police Department have released news details on a double shooting late Friday afternoon that left one man dead.

    The incident occurred at approximately 5:30 p.m., when police from multiple law enforcement agencies responded to a 911 call reporting two people had been shot on Edmonds Road.
