Decatur man charged after alleged assault with baseball bat

DECATUR, AL (WAFF) -

Decatur police arrested a man who allegedlystruck another man in the head with a bat.

A 43-year-old man was found in the woods offof Sixth Avenue, bleeding heavily from the head. He was taken to Decatur-Morganhospital where it was determined the man had been hit with a baseball bat.

Investigators learned that the man's attackerhad run across Sixth Avenue in an attempt to get away. Officers converged onthe area to search for him. A short time later, an officer encountered asuspicious person walking north behind Gateway Shopping Center.

A short foot chase followed, and after abrief struggle, officers were able to capture the man.

Brendon Keith Dotson was arrested and chargedwith public intoxication, harassment and resisting arrest. The assault victimand another witness later identified Dotson as the man who attacked the victim.Dotson was then charged with second-degree assault.

The victim was treated and released from thehospital.
