HUNTSVILLE, AL (WAFF) -

Huntsville Utilities crews will be on standby ahead of strong winds which are expected to hit the area Thursday.

A Huntsville Utilities spokesperson said they are looking into the possibility of trees becoming uprooted and taking out power lines.

The plan calls for placing crews at various points across Madison County to quickly respond if there are any outages. The company said they are hopeful the winter season will help stop some trees from crashing down.

"If there's leaves on the trees, it increases the resistance and can cause them to fall easier. That's one advantage we have this time of the year. You can take the same storm and put it in June, you'll have a lot of issues," said spokesperson Bill Yell.

Huntsville Utilities said that if you have any power issues as the storm blows in, you need to report it immediately.
