BIRMINGHAM, AL (WBRC) -

A large commercial fire has been contained in west Birmingham, but crews will likely continue battling the blaze for another couple of hours, according to fire officials.

The two-alarm fire is at the ABM Auto Parts building near Lomb Avenue and 15th Street. The FOX6 Towercam on Red Mountain has captured large amounts of black smoke billowing over west Birmingham.

The black smoke is caused by burning 50 gallon oil drums, which are the biggest concern at this time, deputy battalion chief C.W. Mardis said. They are using foam to extinguish the burning oil.

Fire officials also believe propane and acetylene cylinders inside the building have exploded inside the building.

Six employees were inside the ABM Auto Parts building when the fire erupted around 2:30 p.m. Tuesday and everyone was able to escape. No one was injured.

Chief Mardis says it appears a welding accident caused the blaze. There are between 12 to 15 units responding to the fire, including three ladders and two tanker trucks.

Fire officials are asking people to avoid the area while they continue to put out fire.

Watch a live report on the commercial fire in the top of the 5 p.m. news on FOX6. It will be available online at www.FoxAlabamaLive.com and on the WBRC News app.
