NMR Technology (No Molds Required) is a technology Envision Plastics and Design uses to manufacture custom plastic panels, plastic electronic enclosures, displays and other plastic parts with no tooling or molds. NMR fits lower volume production needs which are the same volume levels as precision sheet metal fabricators typically are.

When production lines of thousands of electric handheld devices like iPhones, Garmin GPS units, or even Xbox controllers are manufactured, it is typically in a linear process assembly line. At the conclusion of this assembly line (or during) there are inspection measurements taken. In the past, some contract manufacturers have approved devices they thought were acceptable functionally, but realized after manufacturing concluded that the actual color shade of the product was off - essentially, making the product unsuitable for market. Imagine several hundred completed and ready to ship iPhones getting scrapped in final inspection just because the color as was off? Well, that situation happens.
Fortunately, a new device has been marketed to aid in the inspection process within such assembly lines. The product was developed by Envision Plastics and DuFresne Manufacturing as a result of being consulted by a Fortune 500 US firm who had a quality control problem overseas. This client asked DuFresne and Envision to make a custom light source to aid in inspection of these devices on the assembly line. The product was dubbed the VSI machine (Virtual Source Inspection).
The machine was designed with a precision sheet metal frame structure made at DuFresne Manufacturing with plastic skins and accents on it manufactured by Envision Plastics No Molds Required plastic fabrication technology (NMR Technology). The work surface is removable and is electrically conductive to allow for static dissipation.
The underside has a cavity that houses flexible LED lighting which provides a very consistent light transmittance and takes variables out of the actual lighting used for inspection. The unit is calibrated at 700 LUX when it leaves the manufacturing facility. The devices are checked under this table top mounted VSI and passed or rejected based on what the product requirements are.
