Dougherty Co. Commissioner will run for 8th term

ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

A longtime Dougherty County leader says he will seek an eighth term on the County Commission.

Commissioner Jack Stone announced plans to run again for the District VI seat Monday.  Stone, who was recently named county Vice Chair, has served on the commission for nearly three decades.

He said the commission is in a transitional stage, and will need an experienced leader now that Chairman Jeff Sinyard announced plans to retire at the end of the year, and as Commissioner Gloria Gaines runs to become the new chair.

"I've been on the Dougherty County Commission more than any elected official," said Stone.  "So I'm gonna stay here and help [Gaines] all I can and the rest of the commission. Do the best I can for all of Dougherty County, same as I've done for the last 28 years."

Stone said he's against consolidation of city and county governments, and doesn't plan to do anything differently. He said the county's recent job growth shows leaders are on the right track.

Anthony Jones, a long time county resident, has also announced plans to run for the District VI seat.  He said leaders should do more to stimulate job growth, and hopes to improve investments within the community.

Primary elections will be held May 20th.
