Are you worried cable companies are getting
too big to care for their customers? Well last weeks announcement by
Comcast and their agreement to buy Time Warner should have the attention of many
of their subscribers. The 45 billion dollar acquisition would make
Comcast the biggest video and internet provider in the country, with
dominance in 19 of the country's top 20 TV Markets. Of course
Comcast says it will be good for consumers but they haven't really said
how it will be good for consumers. When we see more market power in the
hands of a single company, we traditionally see higher prices and less
than stellar service. This new deal will probably face scrutiny from the
FCC and lawmakers. I guess customers will have to stay tuned to see what
this deal could mean to them. On the plus side local TV stations like
WAFF 48 continue to be free to viewers over the air.
