Several lawmakers will tour North Alabama to learn about growth in jobs and industry this week. Several lawmakers will tour North Alabama to learn about growth in jobs and industry this week.

The city of Decatur is looking to save money by doing away with the year-round ice rink at Point Mallard, making it a seasonal event instead. The resolution is expected to come up at Monday's city council meeting.

Also in Decatur, the school district is holding a community discussion about new high schools. The first meeting is Monday in the Decatur High School cafeteria from 6 to 8 p.m. The second meeting is Tuesday in the Austin High School cafeteria from 6 to 8 p.m.

Alabama Senator Richard Shelby heads out this week on his statewide jobs and industry tour. He will visit Rehau Incorporated in Cullman County and Lockheed Martin in Lawrence County on Monday. On Tuesday, he will stop by Nucor Steel Company in Morgan County, the Toyota plant in Madison County, Mitchell Grocery in Marshall County, Sanoh America in Jackson County, and Rainsville Technology in DeKalb County.

The Toyota plant will also be the focus of attention of several other state lawmakers and Governor Robert Bentley, who will be in town Tuesday to mark the company's fourth expansion and production of 3 million engines made in Madison County.

In the Shoals, the children's pastor accused of sexually abusing minors is expected to appear in court Tuesday for a bond hearing. Jeff Eddie is charged with more than 30 counts of sexual abuse of a child, sodomy, and child pornography.

The 19-year-old accused of beating al elderly Huntsville artist to death is set to appear in court on Wednesday. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Ervin Tolbert, who is charged with the murder of Wade Wharton.

An event geared towards veterans is being held in Huntsville this week. Warriors to the Workforce will help them find jobs and make the transition from military to civilian life. It's at the Von Braun Center on Wednesday and Thursday.
