RICHMOND HILL, GA (WTOC) -

The Georgia Department of Transportation is looking for the public's input on the proposed widening of Georgia State Route 144 from Timber Trail Road to south of Belfast River Road in Bryan County.

Plans and displays can be viewed at the Public Hearing Open House meeting on Feb. 20, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m., the public is also encouraged to discuss and give comments to Georgia DOT staff.

The open house hearing is set to take place at the Bryan County Administrative Complex located at 66 Captain Matthew Freeman Drive in Richmond Hill.

"Public involvement is a critical element in the Georgia DOT road planning process and it can make a big difference in the development of projects," states Karon Ivery, Georgia DOT District Engineer in Jesup, in a press release."Georgia DOT strongly believes that since its road projects are intended to serve people, the ideas and preferences of these people are important."

The proposal is to widen Georgia State Route 144 from two lanes to four lanes with grass median, begninning where the existing four-lane section ends near Timber Trail Road and extending approximately five miles to just south of Belfast River Road. The widening would include sidewalks and access for bicycles.

After the open house, the display will be available for 10 days at the GDOT Savannah AreaOffice located at 630 W Boundary Street.
