Controlled burns underway at Fort Stewart

HINESVILLE, GA (WTOC) -

Fort Stewart Forestry Branch will be burning over 2,000 acres on Sunday.

The first controlled burn is 733 acres. Flames will be visible from Ga. Highway 47 and Ga. State route 144 E. The burn area is 2.7 miles northeast of Building 1 and less then a mile southeast of Lawson fire tower, according to the Fort Stewart Public Affairs office.

The second controlled burn is 498 acres. Flames will not be visible from Ga. Highway 144W. The burn area is 8.8 miles northwest  of Building 1 and 2 miles southeast of Taylor Creek fire tower, according to the Fort Stewart Public Affairs Office. 

The final controlled burn is 770 acres. Flames will not be visible from Ga. Highway 144W. The burn area is 17.2 miles northwest of Building 1 and 7 miles northwest of Taylor Creek fire tower, according to the Fort Stewart Public Affairs Office.
