WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) - A teen from Apex has been charged in connection to a fatal accident earlier this month that killed a Marine.

According to the Wilmington Police Department, 22-year-old Cory Lee Resse, who was stationed in Jacksonville, was killed on Feb. 16.

Police say 19-year-old Jackson Davies, of Apex, was driving southbound on Rose Avenue towards Wrightsville Avenue around 1 a.m. when he hit Resse, who was walking in the area.

The car then hit a tree and a utility pole.

Reese was pronounced dead soon after the accident.

According to police, Davies had to be extricated from the vehicle and was taken to New Hanover Regional Medical Center. He was released from the hospital Wednesday night.

Davies has been charged with DWI and felony death by vehicle.
