HUNTSVILLE, AL (WAFF) -

As the competition heated up at the Sochi Olympics, Huntsville held its own Olympics of sorts.

The Science Olympiad was held Saturday on the UAH campus at the Shelby Center. That's where dozens of teams made up of middle and high school students from North Alabama competed in brain bending science and technology activities.

"They are learning critical thinking skills," said Tournament Director Vanessa Colebaugh. "They are learning to work as a team. They are learning how to work as partners, even how to write in a technical way. They are building devices that they are trying to test to see how these devices perform."
