HUNTSVILLE, AL (WAFF) -

A major expansion is expected to be announced that would benefit the Huntsville area.

The Military Times reported that Remington Outdoor Company is expected to announce an expansion to a new facility in Huntsville. The Military Times reported that two sources with knowledge of the property sale said ROC executives plan to finalize the sale of a 500,000-square-foot facility on Monday.

Senator Jeff Sessions issued a statement, saying, "Remington's decision is great news and a further testament to the world class workforce in Huntsville. This plant will create good-paying manufacturing jobs for thousands of workers. We warmly welcome Remington Arms and look forward to their success and presence for years to come."

Local gun shop owners are excited about the possibility of the new addition.  Russell Durling is the owner of Last Resort Guns in Madison.  He said Remington coming to the Rocket City is a win-win situation.

"I think it's really good for business and it's good for the economy around here," he said.  "It's going to bring jobs. I don't know whether or not they will be making firearms or ammunition, but either way around it's a really good brand."

The Huntsville City Council will hold a special meeting Monday night to ask Mayor Tommy Battle to execute a project development agreement for a company. A trusted source had said a company will move into the old Chrysler building on Electronics Boulevard. It has not been confirmed if Remington is the company to be discussed.

Sunday evening, Madison County Commissioner Dale Strong announced a work session scheduled for Tuesday morning at 9 a.m.;  the agenda concerns a project development agreement between the county commission, the City of Huntsville, the city's Industrial Development Board, and "an unamed company.'"
