DECATUR, AL (WAFF) -

Walk into the Evelyn Burrow Museum on the campus of Wallace at Hanceville, and you enter a world of privilege and 70 years of collecting pottery, porcelain, and more. It's a world belonging to Evelyn and Otis Burrow.

According to Museum Director Donny Wilson, some pieces dated back to the Victorian era. Wilson said she didn't begin to collect things based on any specific time or origin, but instead because she could and because it was pretty. They just happened being very valuable at the end. "This is a one of a kind museum. It has some of the best porcelain pieces in the Southeast," said Wilson.

Throughout the museum, one constant you notice is a love of all things equine. "She collected many different types and varieties of collectibles," Wilson continued. "One of her favorites were horses. She loved her horses." Not only porcelain pieces, but bronze sculptures. There are many items with horses. "She loved fine arts. She loved the porcelain from Germany. She loved porcelain from Italy. She loved porcelain from France."

The lights seemed to dance on heavy leaded crystal. Porcelain works of Gentry depicts another time and place. Dozens of sets of hand painted fine china, and some works depicting faith. "Miss Evelyn's collection is really great, but it also offers us the opportunity to bring in other artists to the museum like right now we have John Dersham. John worked for Kodak for 30 years." Wilson said Dersham traveled the world taking pictures for Kodak.
