HUNTSVILLE, AL (WAFF) -

School was out due to weather Thursday, but the Huntsville City School Board took a major step toward re-zoning. The board submitted their plan in federal court; the Department of Justice now has a deadline to respond.

The DOJ must approve or deny the school board's plan by Feb. 26.

The school system must get federal approval from the Department of Justice before changing school zones or closing campuses, due to a desegregation case from the 1960s.
