GUNTERSVILLE, AL (WAFF) -

Clearing roads was top priority for crews in Marshall County after several inches fell overnight.

Before dawn Thursday, state road crews were using snow plows to clear Highway 431 through town. After the snow had fallen, Guntersville city crews used motor graders to clear major city streets.

Sand was distributed to give vehicles traction while a backhoe worked to clear roads with hills.

The city's public works director said the cleanup has gone well, thanks in part to Mother Nature. "I think with the sun shining we're going to be in good shape," said Mike Bush. "Things are really melting except when there's excessive shade."

Bush said a crew will be on standby Thursday night should roads re-freeze.
