ALDOT warns motorists of dangerous roadways

MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA) -

ALDOT officials are warning motorists of treacherous driving conditions especially those in north-east Alabama.

Due to the extremely hazardous driving conditions in north Alabama, the Department of Transportation officials are urging residents to stay off all roadways, affected by the storm, until noon Thursday.

"The safest thing for people to do is stay at home, avoiding travel overnight and Thursday morning," said ALDOT spokesman Tony Harris. "Heavy snowfall, particularly in central and north Alabama is impairing the roadways to the point that many are impassable. We are encouraging people to please remain off roadways and keep them open for essential emergency personnel."

Heavy snowfall has resulted in many roads becoming impassable, traveling should be attempted with extreme caution and road crews are present. These are roads in the counties of Cullman, Marshall, Dekalb, Jackson and Madison.
