HUNTSVILLE, AL (WAFF) -

For three days this week, the Von Braun Center in Huntsville will become home to the Association of the United States Army's Winter Symposium and Exposition.

Col. John Wright (Ret.) is the Executive Vice President of the Redstone-Huntsville AUSA chapter. He estimated, "...several thousand attendees from across the world to converge on Huntsville."

The AUSA works to support all aspects of national security while advancing the interest of America's Army. The winter symposium will be the first national level meeting that the organization has held in Huntsville.

Wright said, "This is, you know, a unique opportunity in that Huntsville is the home to Army Materiel Command, Army Aviation and Missile Command, Army Contracting Command, and many other organizations that support the Department of Defense."

With so much support right in our backyard, the symposium's move from Ft. Lauderdale, Florida to Huntsville only seemed logical. In fact, the featured Command for the event is the U.S. Army Materiel Command, which is headquartered on Redstone Arsenal. Wright said, "By bringing it here to Huntsville, we're able to minimize the cost of participation by the military and government personnel, but increase the opportunity for ideas and the exchange of topics throughout the entire time frame."

Over two hundred exhibits will provide an insight into the latest state-of-the-art arms, equipment, and developing technologies. Wright explained, "You'll have everything from small businesses that have fewer than fifty employees to representation from the largest contractors such as Lockheed Martin, Boeing, SAIC." The symposium will also host several education discussions led by panel members.

The symposium will stay true to its theme of "America's Army: Sustaining, Training, and Equipping for the Future" and will run from Feb. 19 to Feb. 21.
