LIMESTONE COUNTY, AL (WAFF) -

Despite the Limestone County Board of Education's decision to fire a principal facing criminal charges, he could be paid with full benefits for a while.

Mickey Glass is protected by the Teacher Accountability Act which means the school system would have to pay him his salary until he is officially terminated as a principal, and that could end up in a limestone county courtroom. Glass has the right to appeal the board's decision, which he has filed to do, If they decide to uphold his termination, he can appeal again to circuit court. It could take several weeks or months before it would make it to court. Until a judge decided whether to uphold his firing, he would get paid based on his $90,000 a year salary

Glass was the director of the Limestone County Career Technical Center. Investigators said he used school funds to buy things for himself, and to buy items he put up for sale online. If the board denies his appeal and a circuit judge upheld it, the board would have to vote to terminate him again as a teacher. Superintendent Dr. Thomas Sisk said the board is working to speed up the process if the case gets to that point.

"We will then be authorized to cut him back to teacher pay. And then we will be able to move forward, we believe concurrently. So while the process is moving forward with the principal case, we'll move forward with the teacher case," Sisk said.

The criminal investigation is ongoing, and Limestone County District Attorney Brian Jones said expects more charges against Glass to come soon.
