GUNTERSVILLE, AL (WAFF) -

A new attraction may soon be coming to some Alabama state parks. The state is looking into a way to give visitors more to do than just hiking or canoeing, and a zip line may be the answer.

A zip line was installed at Gulf State Park on the coast, and its addition has been seen as a huge success. State officials are looking at installing more.

Lake Guntersville, along with Joe Wheeler, Monte Sano and DeSoto are four of the ten parks being considered for a zip line. State officials are soliciting qualifications from guided sports operators for the design, construction and operation of a zip line.

Officials hope vendors will be able to take a look and see where such an outdoor recreation would be feasible for a public or private venue. The activity has been rated as most popular in Gulf Shores and Lake Guntersville officials believe it would bring something new to the state park.

"I think there is a place for outdoor recreation, to get kids out and away from computers and away from phones. The kids won't get out and enjoy nature without giving them that spark," said Park Superintendent Mike Jeffreys.

The state is expecting prospective companies to have their proposals in by the end of the month.
