NORTH ALABAMA (WAFF) -

A man is in jail after authorities said he took Decatur police on a high-speed chase through two counties.

The chase began when officers tried to do a traffic stop. Police said speeds reached over 100 miles per hour at one point.

Decatur police said that around midnight, they tried to pull over a man who was driving an SUV at the intersection of Highway 67 and Highway 31. According to police, the driver didn't stop.

Officers said he continued to drive, entered Calhoun College campus, made a circle and then rammed a Decatur police car. He then drove into Limestone County, where deputies joined in to help Decatur police.

The chase eventually ended on Blackburn Road where the man stopped.

Police arrested 24-year-old James Lindsay of Athens. He faces 11 charges, including DUI, second-degree possession of marijuana, resisting arrest, attempting to flee and elude, reckless driving and reckless endangerment.

"Because the intentional ramming of the police car occurred outside of our jurisdiction in Limestone County, the Limestone County Sheriff's Department will be filing charges against the driver for criminal mischief for the damage to the patrol car," said Decatur Police Lieutenant John Crouch.

The charge for ramming the car is likely to be a misdemeanor, because the damage will likely not exceed the $2,500 threshold to classify it a felony.
