Parking violations will soon cost you more money in Decatur.

The city council voted Monday to raise the fine for overtime parking from $10 to $25.

A city-commissioned report that studied parking in the city called for the increase, saying it would provide more revenue for covering the cost to administer the program while providing a revenue stream for funding enforcement.

Resident Annie Ford is against the measure, saying, "I think it's terrible because it's 500% more. We are working people… I don't know what's going on up there at City Hall."

The report also calls for the creation of a Downtown Parking Commission, which would assist the mayor and city council on decisions regarding the city's parking system.
