GADSDEN, AL (WAFF) -

Gadsden police said they arrested two men after a victim was found shot in the head.

Police responded to an assault call at College Manor Apartments around 7:15 a.m. on Sunday. Upon arrival at 1408 Piedmont Cutoff, officers said they found William Meadows, 38, of Gadsden, on the living room of his girlfriend's apartment, shot in the head. Police said Meadows was taken to Gadsden Regional Medical Center and then to UAB, where he died around 10 p.m.

The victim's girlfriend told police that she had heard a knock at the front door of the apartment and heard Meadows get up to answer it. She said she heard what sounded like a punch and then a single gunshot. She said she saw one of the two suspects, who she recognized. The girlfriend said the suspects searched a couple of rooms and then fled.

Gadsden police said this crime was apparently a home invasion/robbery gone bad.

After gathering information from witnesses, officers located and arrested two suspects within an hour at a home on the 1200 block of Florence Avenue.

The two men, Tyree Young, 19, and Dexter Harris, 21, both of Gadsden, were arrested and remain in the Etowah County Jail on no bond, pending capital murder warrants.
