Vegas pet store owner accused of setting shop ablaze

LAS VEGAS (FOX5) -

An initial court date was continued Monday for a woman accused of setting fire to her own pet shop with dogs still inside.

Clark County Fire Department said Gloria Lee, 35, was arrested after the Jan. 27 blaze at the Prince and Princess Puppy Boutique at 6870 S. Rainbow Blvd.

Lee, who has since bailed out of custody, did not appear in Las Vegas Justice Court for her initial 72-hour hearing Monday.

According to the Clark County Fire Department, firefighters arrived to find the fire inside the business and 28 dogs inside. They said the sprinkler system had activated and had started to extinguish the fire. They said firefighters were able to put out the remainder of the fire and rescue the more than two dozen dogs.

Investigators said Gloria Lee, who was identified as the business owner, was charged with first-degree arson in connection with the fire.

The business sustained $100,000 in damages.

There were no injuries to people in the fire.

FOX5 was told Sunday the canines rescued in the fire were taken to Lied Animal Shelter.

A hearing was scheduled for Wednesday at 8 a.m.
