HUNTSVILLE, AL (WAFF) -

Parents showed up for a public forum at Huntsville High School Saturday morning to speak out about the district's re-zoning plans.

The forum is part of a series of meetings where school leaders are explaining proposed changes involving closing some schools, opening new ones, and re-drawing district lines.

Parents were able to walk around Huntsville High School's gym to look at the plans and ask questions.

Not everyone is sold on the plans which is why school leaders are looking for feedback.

"It's been 43 years since the district has had a systematic approach to facilities and zone rights, so this is a pretty key moment in our history. We wanted mom and dad to understand, and businesses to understand, what's going on and have a chance to talk to us," said Huntsville City Schools Superintendent Dr. Casey Wardynski.

If the school board approves the plan on Thursday, school officials said the district will take it to federal court on Friday.
