WBB: Oregon's Alleyne doubles up Cats

Tucson, AZ -

Oregon sophomore forward Jillian Alleyne posted her second consecutive 20-20 performance leading the Ducks with 29 points and 20 rebounds. as the Ducks (12-9, 3-6) beat Arizona women's basketball (4-16, 0-0) 84-72 Friday night at McKale Center.

Senior Erica Barnes scored a season high 20 points and added 10 rebounds for UA. She did it on 7-of-15 shooting from the field and 6-of-8 from the free-throw line.

Three additional players scored in double digits as junior Candice Warthen also had 20 and sophomore Keyahndra Cannon and freshman Breanna Workman both added 10.

Warthen's 20 points marked her fourth game this year scoring 20 points or more and first since December 15.

Senior Carissa Crutchfield had a season-high eight assists for Arizona.

The Wildcats held the Ducks to 84 points, well below their season average 95.9 ppg and committed a season-low 10 turnovers.

Alleyne was coming off a 34 point, 25 rebound performance Sunday against the Washington Huskies.

In the first half, Barnes scored 10 of her 20 points to lead the Wildcats. The Ducks struck early, storming out to a 14-4 lead in the first five minutes. From there, Arizona narrowed the score to within five, but Oregon cut it off with a 7-0 run and did not look back.

"At halftime, we made an adjustment," Arizona Head Coach Niya Butts said. "We shot the ball a lot better than we shot it in the first half, that's progress. We have to look at all the little things. That's how we have to gauge the progress, especially when we continue to come up short in these games and shoot ourselves in the foot."

Arizona will return home to host Oregon at 7 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 31 and Oregon State on Sunday, Feb. 2 at noon. Sunday's game will be televised live on the Pac-12 Networks.
