MARSHALL COUNTY, AL (WAFF) -

A ruptured water pipe canceled school for some Marshall County elementary school students Thursday morning. It looks like students won't be going back until next week.

Principal Tim Isbill wasn't happy with what he found early Thursday morning when he walked into Claysville Elementary School. Apparently a copper pipe near the front of the school above the ceiling had frozen and then ruptured. The water was then turned off and a service company called in to begin the cleanup process.

They began removing the water before bringing in dehumidifiers to take care of the moisture. Isbill said they really were looking forward to resuming classes.

"It's the last thing I expected to see this morning," Isbill said. "You know, we've been out for a couple of days and we really thought we would get started back today. Our lunchroom ladies were here and had everything prepared for the kids and we just, it's the last thing we expected to see."

Principal Isbill said he plans to be with the custodial staff over the weekend waxing the floors. He anticipates to resume class on Monday.
