BIRMINGHAM, AL (WBRC) -

The Alabama Department of Transportation is working around the clock to improve state highways and interstates.

We are told the Department of Public Safety and the Alabama National Guard have been tasked to work in the Birmingham metro area to move abandoned vehicles from within lanes of traffic to the shoulder of the road. Officials were out patrolling all night to make sure nothing happened to the abandoned vehicles.

Some of the roads are in good shape, but others are still dicey in places. Authorities say it might be a good idea to consider a late start to your day to keep the roads from getting too full in case something does happen.

You can check road conditions on ALDOT's website here.
