MADISON, AL (WAFF) -

Everybody likes a good magic trick, except when it involves a crook pulling off a crime.

One thief stole hundreds of dollars by playing what you might call a "shell game" with some money.

It happened at a register at the Walmart Supercenter on Madison Boulevard Dec.18. The thief is off-camera as security footage begins capturing the incident. He talks with the cashier, who keeps exchanging bills with him. This went on for several minutes, and he is actually stealing money.

According to police, what he did was purchase a small item, paying with a $100 bill. Then, he asked the clerk to break four other $100s. While he kept talking to her, he confused her. It's something we have seen before, sometimes called a "flim-flam" or a "short-change." Police said the guy walked out with over $1,000.

Give him credit – he was pretty slick. But not slick enough to escape surveillance cameras. He left a clear image of him as he exited the store. Sleight of hand or not, this guy's magic is about to run out if you recognize him.

In fact, we can make some cash, up to $1,000, magically appear in your wallet. All you have to do is make the anonymous call to Crime Stoppers at 256-53-CRIME.

Or to text or e-mail an anonymous tip, head to our Crime Stoppers page for details.
