DECATUR, AL (WAFF) -

Officers arrested and charged Michael Austin on Saturday for Unlawful Possession of Marijuana of the first degree, and Unlawful Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.

An officer was headed to serve misdemeanor warrants on a woman who lived at Austin's residence in Decatur. The officer said that when he arrived, he was greeted by Austin who informed him that the woman was not home, but let him search the residence.

According to the officer, during the search they smelled a strong odor of unburned marijuana inside the residence, and found two areas of the residence had been prepared as marijuana labs used to grow and cultivate the plant. Officers contacted narcotic investigators and advised them of the incident.

Investigators claim they found a quantity of marijuana that had already been harvested along with new plants that were being grown. Equipment and chemicals used in the manufacture of marijuana were also found according to the investigators.

Austin was arrested and transferred to Morgan County Jail with a $3,000 bond.
