14-year-old arrested, charged for Southlawn Middle School terrorist threat

Posted: Updated:
MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA) -

The Montgomery Police Department says it has taken into custody a 14-year-old suspect and charged the minor with making a terrorist threat against Southlawn Middle School.

The child, unidentified, was arrested at their home.

Detectives would confirm the student has connections to the school but would not elaborate.

Authorities are not currently releasing any details about the specific threat but say a weapon was involved.

Montgomery Police responded to the scene around 1 p.m. Students were moved into the gymnasium and parents were kept across the street from the school in a church parking lot. All students are safe.

Earlier in the day there was an evacuation at Brewbaker Technology Magnet High School but authorities do not believe the two incidents are related.

WSFA 12 News has a crew working to confirm additional details. We'll have live reports starting with First at Four and into our evening newscasts.
