OWENS CROSS ROADS, AL (WAFF) -

Traffic on Highway 431 was backed up in both directions Friday night as emergency crews worked to check on the welfare of a man who had threatened to harm himself.

There was a large police presence as officers blocked off traffic for nearly two hours for the span of Highway 431 stretching between Old 431 and Cave Spring Road.

Family members told police that the man had made comments earlier in the day that he may harm himself. When police went to his residence near Victorian Lane, they could not get the man to come to the door or answer his phone.

When authorities did enter the home, they found the man asleep and unresponsive. He was transported to the hospital. His condition is unknown at this time.
