SOMERVILLE, AL (WAFF) -

A Somerville woman has been charged with a violation of the Drug Endangered Child Act.

Alyssa Lyn Maples gave birth to a child that tested positive for tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) in the infant's system. THC is the active ingredient in marijuana.

The Special Victims Unit opened a criminal investigation and obtained a warrant for the mother's arrest. She turned herself into the sheriff's office and was released on a $2,500 bond.
