NORTH ALABAMA (WAFF) -

The extreme cold led to a record number of people receiving shelter at the Downtown Rescue Mission in Huntsville.

270 people spent the night as the wind chill dipped below zero. Mission officials said they are prepared to house even more people if needed with more cold weather predicted for next week.

In Madison, Mayor Troy Trulock said a warming center has been set up at Inside Out Ministry, 103 Gin Oaks Court, from 8 p.m. Friday to 8 a.m. Saturday.
