Arsenal announces changes to gate operations

HUNTSVILLE, AL (WAFF) -

Several gates at Redstone Arsenal will be closed beginning Monday.

Officials said the changes are needed to accommodate a reduction in force; there are fewer guards able to work the gates.

From Monday, Gates 3 and 7 will close at 1 p.m. on weekdays. Gate 8 will be closed Monday through Friday. Of course, with change comes some initial confusion. A spokesperson with the Arsenal said he does expect some traffic problems during the first week, but it is nothing they can't handle.

"As our guard staff is reduced, we have to continually adjust how we use our services. Our top priority remains the safety of our employees and security of our arsenal. Unfortunately, this will be a little uncomfortable for us all," said Christopher Colster.

Arsenal officials encourage everyone to have a little patience and possibly leave a bit early next week, and of course, stay safe.
