Multiple Huntsville Police units responded to a call that several people had been shot at a local residence last week. After investigating the call police determined it was a hoax. According to the FBI Huntsville police fell victim to a prank called swatting. The intent is to prank a homeowner to with a fake emergency that results in police or a SWAT team to surround a home. City officials confirmed the caller used a computer program to make the call, and authorities traced the IP address to an out-of-state computer. The culprit of this swatting faces two misdemeanors charges. Hoaxes like this cost taxpayers a lot of money, and could hamper the response of crews for legitimate emergencies. If caught this individual should be made cover all cost involved on top of whatever sentence is handed down.
