MADISON COUNTY, AL (WAFF) -

Prosecutors said many sex offender cases investigated by a former Madison County Sheriff's deputy are in jeopardy following his arrest for theft and receiving stolen property.

Shawn McClure was indicted in 2013 on those charges. In December, a grand jury threw out around 20 of McClure's cases which involved sex offender violations.

This month, a Madison County grand jury chose not to return indictments in eight cases involving convicted sex offenders. All eight list McClure as investigator in the case.

McClure will go to trial for the theft charge April 7. Court documents state McClure was caught with a stolen .44 Magnum.
