10 restaurants featured in Kitchen Cops report

MADISON COUNTY, AL (WAFF) -

The Madison County Health Department gave 88 Buffet in Huntsville a 79.

The inspector reported workers were using a dirty milk carton as a scoop. The inspector noted that beef was held at 54 degrees, and milk was 74 degrees, both well above the maximum 41 degree temperature required to prevent bacterial growth in cold-holding foods.

The inspector also reported the dishwasher wasn't sanitizing and cutting boards were in poor condition, which can lead to cross contamination.

Casa Mexicana in Muscle Shoals scored an 80. A Lauderdale County health inspector reported food held slightly above the required cold-holding temperature, food stored without expiration date marks, and employee drinks on a food prep table.

The Akshar Discount Food Mart in Douglas scored an 81. A Marshall County health inspector reported soda nozzles and equipment used to fill ice bags needed to be cleaned.

Club Rush in Huntsville scored an 83 during their reinspection. The health inspector reported there were no expiration date marks on rice and that the hand washing sink in the bar area had no hot water.

Six food establishments that had been on their health department's reinspection schedule because of previous poor scores scored the required 85 or above during their reinspections that it takes to get off of the reinspection schedule. The Cardinal Rose Organic Country Store in the Simms Community in Marshall County rose four points with an 87. The Sprint Mart in Tuscumbia improved by 12 points, scoring a 94.

The Shoney's in Florence scored an 88 during their reinspection. Whitt's Barbecue in Muscle Shoals scored 92, and eight point improvement. In Boaz, China Buffet made a 17 improvement with an 87. New China Buffet in Huntsville scored an 88, four points better that their previous score.
